-----------------

Nashville singer-songwriter and Jackson native Fred Knobloch will be the headline performer at Wellsfest 2013, along with the Bluz Boys, one of the top show bands in the South.
The 30th WellsFest will be held Saturday, Sept. 28, at Jamie Fowler Boyll Park, next to Smith-Wills Stadium on Lakeland Drive. All proceeds will go to the Good Samaritan Center, a local non-profit celebrating its 40th anniversary this year.

Knobloch gained national attention for his recording of “Why Not Me,” which reached No. 1 in the adult contemporary charts in 1980.
His duet with Susan Anton, "Killin' Time," also became a Top 40 hit. Later in the decade, he teamed with fellow singer/songwriters Paul Overstreet and Thom Schuyler to form S-K-O, whose "Baby's Got a New Baby" became the No. 1 country song in 1987.

Knobloch has had a long successful career as a songwriter for top recording artists. Some of those artists include Trisha Yearwood, Sawyer Brown, Ray Charles, Faith Hill, Delbert McClinton, George Strait, Lorrie Morgan, the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, John Anderson and Etta James.

Knobloch began his career in music in Jackson, playing clubs and writing songs.

In addition to Knobloch, WellsFest will feature one of the South’s premier show bands, The Bluz Boys. The Bluz Boys feature electrifying rhythm and blues and Sixties sweet soul music.

If you loved Joliet Jake and Elwood Blues, take heart, because the good-time spirit and fun of the Blues Brothers lives on. Nearly two decades of performing have honed this 15-person show band inspired by Saturday Night Live's legendary duo, into the tightest, most powerful musical entertainers in Mississippi and the entire South.
The music for Jackson’s original music festival gets under way at 9:30 a.m. and continues until 5 p.m. Musicians scheduled to play at WellsFest, along with Knobloch and the Bluz Boys, include: The Vamps; These Days featuring Jewel Bass; Bob Gates; The Amazing Lazy Boi Band; Time to Move Band; Latinismo; Jean and Andrew Pates with Steve Chester; and The New Bourbon Street Jazz Band.

One of the Southeast Tourism Society’s Top 20 events for September 2013, WellsFest features:
• Nonstop music from some of the best bands in the Jackson area;
• Coffee, desserts, food and soft drinks;
• An expanded arts and crafts vendor area;
• A 5K run and walk and one-mile fun run at 8 a.m.;
• A pet parade at 9 a.m.;
• A plant sale;
• A silent auction of goods and services; and
• A wide variety of children's activities in a family-oriented, alcohol and drug-free atmosphere.

Admission and parking are free.

In addition to festival day events, WellsFest Art Night will be held at Duling Hall in Fondren on Tuesday, Sept. 24. This event is free and includes refreshments and live music. The preview party begins at 5:30 p.m., and the live art auction at 7 p.m.

From its modest beginning in the mid 1980s, WellsFest has grown to become a significant community-wide event, with all proceeds going each year to a different non-profit in the community.
