Once upon A Fall Festival (Wednesday, September 26th – Saturday, September 29th) is designed to celebrate children’s literature and encourage children to engage their own imaginations and tell their own stories. Events include book readings, museum play, and a “Once Upon A Time…” writing contest for rising 4th grade students. The competition will be held during the next school year and will officially begin at the museum’s Once upon A Fall Festival event.
We are requesting 4th grade PUBLIC SCHOOL teachers from the following counties contact the MCM for additional information or to inform us of your intent to participate; Hinds, Pearl River, Hancock, Harrison, Washington, Bolivar, Sunflower,
Leflore,Humphrey, Sharkey, Issaquena, Yazoo, Coahoma, and Tunica counties.
Four winning story submissions will be published in a compilation book and the grand prize winner will work with a Mississippi artist to have their book illustrated and published in the compilation. In addition, the grand prize winner will receive a scholarship for their class, including transportation to come to the museum for a field trip. If you are interested in having your class participate, please email Renee Flynt at firstname.lastname@example.org.
The Storybook Ball is the enchanted conclusion of the events of Once upon A Fall Festival. Bring the entire family dressed in their favorite costumes for dinner and dancing while you mingle with some of our favorite fairy tale characters. For your tweens and teens, don’t miss our Beyond the Ball event…”Singing with the Stars”. The singing competition is open to a limited number of contestants age 10-18. A registration fee of $100 is required to perform in the competition, payable upon notification of acceptance. For performance groups consisting of more than one member, there is an additional registration fee of $25 per group member. Each performance/ performance group is permitted to have only one chaperone attend the event at no additional cost. Other attendees must purchase a ticket for admission to the event. The grand prize includes a recording session with Brian Fuente in his recording studio in Nashville, TN, with lodging for two nights included. The winner will also perform live at the Museum’s annual Birthday Party on December 8, 2012 and will have other opportunities for live performances with our sponsors, as well as miscellaneous prizes.
