On Thursday, November 15, Southern Breeze Gallery invites you to enjoy Ridgeland Rendezvous, an evening of art, food, friends and relaxation featuring receptions at each of the Ridgeland art galleries. Reserve your Thursday evening for a rich cultural and culinary experience, including Southern-Breeze-Gallery-artist Lee Gibson and wine-tasting sponsored by Vintage Wine Market. Browse the Ridgeland galleries beginning at 5 pm and complete a perfect day with dinner at one of Ridgeland’s fine restaurants.

This month Southern Breeze Gallery features the paintings of Lee who is recognized throughout the Southeast for vibrant oils painted with a palette knife. For over twenty-five years Lee has devoted her professional time to lush landscapes, portraits and still lifes. She works her colors intensely, even aggressively in thick layers of paint, liberating color from form and light from surface. She says, “I like dramatic light situations. I want to push and pull the canvas using light as my inspiration.”

Although Lee has studied architecture and art at the University of Arizona and at RadfordUniversity, her most valuable studies have taken place during extensive travel throughout the United States and abroad to the art capitals of the world. In the early nineties she settled in Warsaw, Poland, which served as her home base for trips to the nerve art-centers of Europe. She spent time studying in Paris, Amsterdam, Ireland, London, Vienna, Rome and Budapest. In Scotland, she studied for a summer at the prestigious Glasgow School of Art. She also took her art interests to Costa Rica.

Images of flowers, boats, cats and dogs, glass and wine, pottery, trees, country houses and ducks are all occasions in Lee’s paintings for the revelation of light and color. Her paintings convey optimism, abundance, plenitude. All things are possible in the color and light of our world.
