July 5, 2006/posted by JFP—The newly elected president of the Jackson City Council, Ben Allen of Ward 1, tells the Jackson Free Press tonight that he is leaving his long-time conservative, and often controversial, radio stint on the Ben & Larry Show on WJNT AM. His last show will be Thursday morning. "The Ben & Larry Show was a free-wheeling radio show," Allen told the JFP Wednesday night. "All comments from all walks of life were welcomed. But I don't want to put the city or council in an awkward situation. My circumstances have changed."

Unlike Mayor Johnson's administration, Mayor Melton, by way of a letter dated January 30, 2006, has requested the Council's initial input and assistance on Board appointments. The purpose of this post is to acquaint any interested person with the application process for the various Boards and Commissions that have openings (and opportunities in) our City. Please review these openings and contact your Councilperson if you have an interest in being considered.

Three members of the Jackson City Council ( Barrett-Simon, Crisler, Allen) will be in D.C. next week for the "National League of Cities" meeting. Marcus Ward, our new lobbiest, will be accompanying us to "The Hill" and will be briefing us on the Mayor's legislative agenda and our City's funding requests. I will make it public as soon as I have it. (We do have the "brief", not the detail.)

about the zany activity going on in the Mayor's office?!?!?!
For years, while Mayor, Harvey Johnson was constantly asked the same question about the consistently "outrageous" behavior and antics from one of my colleagues in the Legislative Branch of our Government (City Council). The constant "pot-stirring" , be it race, board appointments, street namings, bogus bribery allegations directed to another colleague, bodily threats, death threat finger pointing, and general mayhem was the one constant of our Council then, and the "Author" of this mayhem was consistently one person. No one up there was immune from this type of innuendo and ugliness. I was at many meetings when Harvey was asked/instructed/demanded by citizens to "FIX IT".
